Due to urgent repairs to a bridge between Cardiff Central and Caerphilly some lines are blocked.

Impact

Train services running through these stations will be cancelled or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day on 27/04/25.

Customer Advice

We have received a report of a bridge defect between Cardiff Queen Street and Cardiff Central. For safety, train services are unable to run through the area resulting in services from Cardiff Central and Caerphilly being amended. Train services will be disrupted until the end of the day on Sunday 27th April at the earliest.

We will be running an hourly service between Penarth and Caerphilly.

Alternative travel options:
We have organised rail replacement buses to run between Cardiff Central and Caerphilly, to assist customers to complete journeys where possible at no extra cost.
Buses will depart from Caerphilly at XX15 and XX45 (first bus departs at 06:15, last bus departs at 23:20). There will also be a direct bus service departing at XX30 and XX00 (06:30 - 19:00)
Buses will depart from Cardiff Central at XX10 and XX40 (first bus departs at 05:40, last bus departs at 23:25 calling all stops to Ystrad Mynach). There will also be a direct bus departing at XX25 and XX55 (06:25 - 19:25).

Road Transport will take longer than rail services. Please allow extra time to complete your journey.

Train services running through these stations will be cancelled or delayed by up to 20 minutes. Disruption is expected until the end of the day on 27/04/25.

Customer Advice

A routine inspection of the intersection bridge between Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen Street at the weekend revealed some structural problems. The bridge connects Cardiff Central to Queen Street, running over the lines linking Cardiff Central to Newport and beyond. Safety is our first priority, so services were immediately suspended and engineers sent to site.
Extensive repair works have enabled mainline services between Newport and Cardiff to largely reopen.
Services between Cardiff Central and Ebbw Vale Town Remain suspended. Please use alternative services between Cardiff Central and Newport. for rail services between Newport and Ebbw Vale Town.
Work on the bridge will continue this week with service amendments expected until Sunday 27/04/25
