What's happened?
Services between Wigan Wallgate and Manchester Victoria via Atherton are being disrupted due to a fault with the signalling system.
Network Rail staff are on site and trying to rectify the issue.

How does this affect my journey?
Train services are unable to run between Wigan Wallgate and Manchester Victoria via Atherton (in this direction only).
Services between Headbolt Lane and Blackburn (in this direction only) will be affected by this disruption.

Northern services between Southport and Stalybridge are not affected.

What should I do?
Customers at Wigan Wallgate requiring Daisy Hill, Hag Fold, Atherton, Walkden and Swinton are advised to change at Salford Crescent for connecting Northern services towards these stations which are not affected.

Customers at Daisy Hill, Hag Fold, Atherton, Walkden and Swinton requiring stations towards Manchester are advised to travel to Wigan Wallgate and change for connecting Northern services towards Manchester.

Passengers are advised that they can use their Northern tickets on the following Bee Network buses at no extra cost -
V1, V2, 608, 609, 35, 132, 601, 602, 36, 37, 38, 607

Please note that other train operators may also be affected by disruption please check your whole journey before travelling.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

Replacement transport:
Road transport has been requested to operate between Wigan Wallgate and Salford Crescent.

Customers travelling to and from the Greater Manchester area:

Due to the continued extreme heat, we have significantly reduced the number of trains running on routes in and out of Manchester, and services remain in high demand.

We strongly recommend customers consider whether their journey is necessary and if customers do choose to travel this week, they are advised to prepare for significantly longer waiting times, busy trains and short-notice cancellations.

We would ask all customers to only travel if your journey is absolutely essential and to check your full journey before setting off.

We know some of our customers still need to travel, and we are doing everything we can to keep people moving as efficiently as possible.

Ticket Easements:

A national ticket easement policy is in place across train operators.

If you have a Northern ticket dated Thursday 25th June or Friday 26th June, you can use it instead to travel up to and including Tuesday 30th June. You can also use your ticket to travel earlier in the day on 25th and 26th June.

Refunds:

If you no longer wish to travel, you can get a full refund from where you bought your ticket.

Please apply for your refund before 23:59 on the day before your ticket is valid.
